The New Orleans Saints and Fatherhood

#Fail.

Of course, we’re all overjoyed here that the Saints won. According to Sarah, over in The Promises Department, it was never in doubt. That’s not what the #Fail is for.

There’s been some flurry of ruffled feathers. Seems that as the camera was on Mr. Brees as he was holding his son, a television announcer opined that winning the Super Bowl was the most precious moment a father could share with his son. There hasn’t been An Official Response yet from The One In Charge. I’d hate to be on the other end of that phone call.

Sistertech can think of many, many precious moments fathers share with their…children: sons and daughters. And on the Colts side, there is the very important job of showing others how to be gracious in losing. The most American sports moment to share? Sure. An Olympic medal, on the international side of things. Yes. That would be precious.

But overall? Too bad the game happened on a Sunday. I’d love to see an exercise given to all the dads in church. Imagine anything possible. Now list the most precious moment you could share with your child.

Psalm of the Day

For Saturday, February 6, 2010

How refreshing it is to rest in The One In Charge. Remember that old Coke commercial? We’ll it is a crash remaking of this Psalm: Things go better with The One In Charge.

5The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
you hold my lot.
6The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
I have a goodly heritage.

Psalm for Super Bowl Day

The odds? Not surprisingly, here in The Office the Saints are favored. Sistertech remains… I cannot lie. Since Farve is out, it’s GO SAINTS!

The Special Response Team is at the ready in case a player is badly hurt. There’s plenty of paper in the fax machines. We expect a huge increase in volume of prayers today. Happens every Super Bowl. Sistertech cannot help but wonder: Where are these “true believers” are the rest of the year?

The Psalm 138 for today is especially relevant. Particularly verses 7 and 8, don’t you think?

7Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
and your right hand delivers me.
8The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.

The Psalm in its entirety  follows below. Continue reading “Psalm for Super Bowl Day”

Hail Holy External Drive

Hail, holy 2 TB storage drive, mother of mercy,
Hail keeper of our life’s work, our sweetest digital files,
and our hope of a promotion.

To thee do we cry, poor banished children of
incessant computer crashes;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this
valley of infected and corrupted files.
Turn, then, most gracious defender,
thine repository of mercy toward us;
and after this, our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, our files:
O clement, O loving, O sweet 2 TB drive.

Pray for us, O perfect external drive,
That we may be made worthy of thy promises of safety.

Amen.

Did you do this before you plugged in the new UPS?

Upon the Dedication of a UPS

O One In Charge, today we dedicate this UPS.
May it be a constant reminder of your unfailing love for us.
And as through it You provide us assurance
of ceaseless power for our tech equipment,
make us worthy to offer Thee
ceaseless praise and thanksgiving without interruption.

Amen.

Wellness tips for system administrators

A System Administrator’s Prayer for Wellbeing

May all users on this network be happy,
may they be healthy,
may they be comfortable and never miserable.

May the system updates come down in the proper time,
may the throughput be plenty,
may the user forum be free from war,
may the database be secure.

Amen.

Psalm of the Day

I don’t know about you, but often Sistertech is impatient. Strike that. She is usually quite impatient. Even with The One In Charge, I’m afraid. I’ve had some suggestions for cleaning up The Database (you probably know it as “The Book of Life”), but I’ve yet to hear back. Why haven’t I received some answer? Yes, no, maybe, I’m busy right now with the earthquake in Haiti — nothing.

So when I read this Psalm today I had to confess (NO! Not that kind of “confess” — you all are such literalists!) that I was jealous of the Psalmist. In the midst of The-One-In-Charge-knows-what, the guy is able to say: “I’m in a pretty bad spot here. But on your timetable, I know you’ll assist me.”

Psalm 69:13-16

13But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.
At an acceptable time, O God,
in the abundance of your steadfast love, answer me.
With your faithful help 14rescue me
from sinking in the mire;
let me be delivered from my enemies
and from the deep waters.
15Do not let the flood sweep over me,
or the deep swallow me up,
or the Pit close its mouth over me.

16Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good;
according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
