It’s been raining here. Cats and dogs rain; thunder and lightening. Perfect weather for coding. Sistertech loves coding. There’s the thrill of the hunt for the most elegant solution to some thorny error or some annoying computing task. But there is another reason. I could get in trouble for saying this. Power.
I am sure some of you have experienced the demeaning lack of power we in the tech services industry confront day after day, week after week. Whether it’s other people’s computer problems or simply their attitude problems, we must remain professional, polite, and, frankly, powerless. At least that is how it seems to Sistertech.
Don’t get me wrong. I do not have an “obedience” problem. In fact, my last Obedience evaluation scores were 8.461 on The Scale of 10. (Of course, she scores a perfect 10.0 on her Scale.) I want to obey The One In Charge. But I do not always want to “obey” my clients. Whenever I can spend some quiet time coding away, Sistertech feels a nearly indescribable sense of control and power. It’s quite heady, really. I can change things that do not function according to Sistertech’s extremely high efficacy standards. I can delete with impunity. I can experiment without fear of retribution. What’s not to like?
